The parents can set the Parental Control feature on their child’s device so that they can keep an eye on their child’s online activity. Set Parental Controls on Mac:
For this, you should click on the Apple icon which is in the top-left side of your Mac screen. Now, you should choose System Preferences. Then on the System Preferences window, you should click on the yellow and black Parental Controls icon which is located in the bottom row to continue setting up Parental Controls.
At this point, you should select the account to modify. If in case, you don’t have a secondary user account, then you should set up a child account. But if you have a second or third user account and then you should modify or enable parental controls on that account. To enable Parental Control, you should click on the lock symbol which is in the lower-left side of the screen. Then, it will prompt you to enter your password. After this, you should select the account which you want to modify with parental settings from the left-hand panel. At this point, you can set restrictions for six categories: Apps, Web, Stores, Time, Privacy, and Other.
Set up a Child Account:
If in case, you have single administrator account on your Mac, then you have to create a new user account if you click the Parental Controls icon which is in System Preferences. Remember, the new account which you create is subject to your parental controls settings.
Always keep in mind, you should have at least one administrator account on your Mac. Then, you can select Convert this account to a parental controls account or you can select Create a new user account with parental controls, and then click on Continue option. After this, you should enter your password. Here, you should name the new account, then select an age category and then create a unique password for it.
In Mac, Parental control features include you can limit access to certain apps, you can set the usage caps for screen time, can deactivate Siri and you can remove printer access also. With this, you can scale everything back and then just add in features on a need-to-have basis.
Block Websites on Mac:
If you want to block websites on a Mac, then you should go to the Web tab in the Parental Controls panel and then select the specific websites which you want to restrict. You can apply this function only to Safari, MacOS’s built-in browser. But if you want to block websites on other browsers like Chrome or Edge, then you have to download the add-ons or extensions for those browsers.
Set up Safari Parental Controls on Mac:
You should open Parental Controls, and then open System Preferences, and after this, select Parental Controls. Now, you should click on the Web tab. Here, you should select Web from the top navigation panel which is in the Parental Controls panel. Then, you should select Try to limit access to adult websites. At this point, you should click on Customize option. Here, there are two sections, one for websites which you want to access and other for websites which will be blocked. Now, you should click the + or – symbols just to add or remove websites. At the end, you should copy and paste the URLs of the websites which you want to allow or block.
